Working Too Hard?

May 20

Kim and I took Cali to Mount Baldy yesterday for a hike. We went to a familiar area and let Cali explore the many sights and smells. We came upon a fallen tree. I decided to climb over the tree while Cali easily went underneath and out the other side. Cali had no intentions of trying to climb with me, so I had to let go of her leash. It dawned on me how often we miss the easier path in life only to climb fallen trees. Jesus says in Matthew 11:28-30, “Come to Me all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light” (NAS). Trusting Jesus is perhaps the simplest thing to do yet we often seek out a much harder path. We find ourselves walking precariously along dangerous routs, exhausting our minds, bodies, and spirits. We work so hard trying to find balance in our lives, yet every step throws our equilibrium off even more. I would suggest stopping where you are; drop the leash; fervently ask Jesus to give you wisdom; and let Him guide you underneath your tree.
