The Wrong Side of the Gate

May 5

Cali loves to follow me wherever I go. I was mowing the front lawn this morning and she wanted to be with me. I put Cali on a chain to keep her in our yard. I finished mowing the front and Cali and I returned to the back. I had one more task-to put some weed pellets around the rose bushes up front. I did not latch the gate since it is designed as a one-way entrance. However, the gate can open backwards just a little. Cali has never tried to push the gate beyond its stopping point, and I thought she would be OK. As I was diligently spreading weed killer (weed inhibitor is more politically correct) around the rose bushes, sure enough, Cali pushed through the gate and made her way somewhere behind me. After spreading the weed pellets, I went to the back yard and latched the gate. After a while, I noticed that Cali was not around. I called for her and-no Cali. I went to the gate and there she was trying to get in. The front yard was no longer her desired place. The neighbor down the street noticed Cali by herself and notified Kim that she was trying to get into the back yard. All this happened about the same time. I unlatched the gate and Cali came running to me where she felt safe and secure. John 10:9 states, “Yes, I am the gate. Those who come in through me will be saved…” (NLT). Jesus Christ is our gateway to eternal salvation. By asking Jesus to be lord and savior and the forgiver of our sins, we have the right to enter His gate. Jesus will keep us secure and safe. However, we do have free choice. Sometimes we will try to force our way out of God’s gate and walk beyond His security. Unfortunately, the other side of life does not always give us the pleasures we desire. In fact, it will always lead to destruction. Though we will never lose our salvation, we can wander from His protection. Jesus is more than ready to open the gate and let us in. If you are on the wrong side of God’s gate, turn to him for He holds the key to the latch and will gladly unlock it for you.
