Standing In Front Of A Beautiful Waterfall

While hiking the other day, Kim, Cali, and I came across a beautiful waterfall. Due to a heavy snowfall this past winter, the mountain streams were flowing in full force. We decided to have our picture taken in front of the fall. Somehow, Cali wants to be in every picture, so Kim graciously took the camera shot. Later, as I reflected upon this picture, I realized the powerful force nature displays in water. Had either Cali or I fallen into the stream behind us, it could have resulted in a serious situation. However, since the danger was behind us and we were sitting on a solid rock, our somewhat precarious position was transformed into a beautiful setting. Jesus states in Matthew 7:24-25, “Therefore everyone who hears these words of Mine and acts on them, may be compared to a wise man who built his house on the rock. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and slammed against that house; and yet it did not fall, for it had been founded on the rock” (NAS). We have a choice to turn a situation into danger, or one of beauty. It all depends upon our perspective. If we place our hope in Jesus, we can turn our backs on troubles and view them as beautiful situations. This may sound a bit odd, however, the Bible states in Romans 8:28, “And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose” (NAS). If we learn to turn from fear and worry and turn toward Jesus’ promises, we can smile at the future and know all is well. Next time you feel anxious, worried, or depressed, picture your trouble as a beautiful waterfall.
