September 3-Saying Goodbye to a Good Friend

My son and daughter-in-law came home from Oregon yesterday. This meant Cali and Kirby had to say goodbye to each other. As the final moments arrived for Kirby’s departure, Cali could not stand the separation and jumped in the Jeep with Kirby. We gave the dogs their special moment and then I ordered Cali out of the Jeep-a bit harsh but necessary.

Have you ever had to say goodbye to a good friend? The experiencing can be overwhelming. Jesus understood the heartache of separation. Just before His crucifixion, Jesus comforted the disciples by saying, “Do not let your heart be troubled; believe in God, believe also in Me” (John 14:1-NAS).

Jesus understood the disciples could only receive the Holy Spirit by His leaving. The disciples did not understand that the day of Pentecost would come shortly, and they would receive the indwelling of the Holy Spirit. Little did the disciples know that better things were yet to come.

If you have lost a loved one or had to separate from a family member or from a good friend, know that God understands, and He sees your broken heart. Trust that He will give you strength and that He will help in saying, “Goodbye.”
