The other day, I noticed a slight skunk smell while driving down the road. I did not think much about it until yesterday while running with Cali. Cali ran over to what she thought was an interesting object. I realized it was a dead skunk. I pulled on her leash and said, “No!” Cali quickly pulled away from the skunk without hesitation. Whatever Cali originally thought about the skunk, she soon realized that she wanted nothing to do with it.
James 1:14-15 states, “Temptation comes from our own desires, which entice us and drag us away. These desires give birth to sinful actions. And when sin is allowed to grow, it gives birth to death” (NLT).
Sin is much like a skunk smell. At first, there might be a slight tug at your heart. You have a wrongful sense of what you are doing, however, you do not really pay much attention to it. As sin snatches you closer, you become distinctly aware of the smell until you realize that it has the qualities of death.
Whenever, you feel that slight tug on your heart take note, and quickly seek God’s counsel. That tug might just pull you toward a dead skunk on the trail.
