Running Shoes

April 19

I woke up this morning feeling a little better than lousy. For whatever reason, I decided to get a migraine before going to bed last night and I had to take some migraine meds. Since I didn’t get a full night’s sleep, I woke up feeling like a sea slug. I am not sure how a sea slug feels, but that’s how I described my bodily state. Since I did not run Cali yesterday, I knew I had to run her today. I decided to run before watching our online church service. Even though my body was screaming, “No-don’t you dare run now,” I knew I had to do it for Cali’s sake and for mine. With great effort and determination, I put on my running shoes and headed toward a very exuberant Cali. Funny how dogs instinctively know when a run is coming. As I got further into our run, my body woke up, my head cleared, and I felt energetic. By the end of the run, I was feeling great. Psalms 119:11 states, “Your word I have treasured in my heart, that I may not sin against You” (NAS). Have you ever felt sluggish in wanting to read God’s word? I am sure we all experience a time when reading the Bible is not on our priority list. If we can put our feelings aside, take a leap of faith, and have a devotional time with God, our spiritual energy will revive, and God’s presence will permeate through our soul. Next time you don’t feel like having a quiet time with God, envision Him handing you your running shoes.
