Protecting Our Treasures

Saturday, Kim and I decided to clear off our patio. We pressure-washed the walls, ceiling, and cement floor. Wow! What a job. Cali was a bit confused by all the commotion and could not figure out what we were doing. Apparently, as she saw more and more of her personal belongings disappear, she grabbed her last remaining toy and guarded it with determined resolve. Proverbs 11:24 states, “Give freely and become more wealthy; be stingy and lose everything” (NAS). Do we hold tightly onto things afraid of losing them? Little did Cali know that all her toys were safe and were coming back onto the patio for her enjoyment. Sometimes the things of the world can cloud our judgments and make us lose focus on what is important. The next verse in Proverbs states, “The generous will prosper; those who refresh others will themselves be refreshed” (NAS). When we learn to give our possessions to God and serve others, He has a way of giving back in ways unimaginable. Are you holding onto things in fear of losing them? I would challenge you to let go and see what God will do with your backyard treasures.
