May 22-A Hard Day's Work

Kim, Cali, and I took down some tree limbs at Kim’s mom’s house today. Preparation for the job took a lot of time. I had to decide which limbs to cut, rig the rope lines, and prepare myself with safety gear. The tree is an Evergreen Ash and has had many years to develop some very awkward branches. I have slowly cut this tree over the years and I believe there a few more years ahead before it is cut to the ground. The tree is so tall that it can no longer hold the weight of its branches. The house is in jeopardy of getting damaged by falling limbs. As I strung out my rope lines, Cali decided it was time for play. She grabbed the rope and began tugging with all her might. We were playing tug of war with my climbing lines. I eventually won the contest and up the tree I went. After spiking my way up, I tied myself in and proceeded to prepare one of the limbs for cutting. Cali watched in amazement and I am fairly sure she was thinking, “Hey, what kind of game is this? You know very well I can not get up to you. I don’t have spikes.” Yeah sure. After cutting the branches I rigged my rappel rack and proceeded to lower myself to the ground. After reaching the stability of terra firma, I began packing my ropes into their proper bags and buckets. Again, Cali was sure we were playing tug of war. She grabbed the end of my line and pulled with all her might. Fortunately, I won the game again. I was very thankful for Kim as she makes a tremendous grounds person. She would remove cut branches, tie and send up essential equipment, and manage tag lines to direct the falling branches. At the end of the day, Kim’s mom, Alyce, gave Kim, Cali, and me a fantastic lunch. Psalm 126: 6 states, “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied” (NAS). How often have you experienced an exhausting day? Those days can make us feel weary and sometimes they can make us feel discouraged. If you had a hard day and are discouraged, look to Jesus for He has prepared a wonderful lunch for you.
