Cali loves to run. She never tires of running whether it is in the backyard or on the trail. Cali is always on the lookout for something to chase. Her rubber bone and lizards are her most enjoyable backyard chase while little dogs are her favorite on the trail. We were running this morning and, sure enough, up ahead was a little dog. I am not sure what it is about little dogs that interest her so much other than they are about the size of her backyard toys. As we got closer to the dog, Cali’s excitement welled up and I was having to keep her in check. We passed the dog with no chaos and continued our path. As I contemplated Cali’s excitement for approaching dogs, I thought of what the Apostle Paul said in Philippians 3:14: “I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus” (NAS). Sometimes the excitement of this world overshadows the joy we are going to receive in Heaven. The pathway to Heaven is so easy, I do not understand why more people choose not to take it. Asking Jesus Christ into one’s heart for the forgiveness of sins is so simple, yet many people try to bypass the simplicity of asking. So often, people think they can get to heaven by good works or by sacrificing certain pleasures in life. All these efforts without Jesus are meaningless. If you have never asked Jesus to come into your life and forgive you of your sins, I would encourage you to do that right now. If you pray that simple prayer, you will have the opportunity of looking ahead for your heavenly treasure.
