Let God Control

March 31

I was walking Cali the other day when I realized another dog and its owner was approaching me about ½ block away. We both were looking at each other each deciding which one would move over. Well, the other owner decided to move his dog to the side and had him sit while we passed. The dog was some sort of boxer dog and I was amazed at how well trained he was. Of course, I was having a difficult time keeping Cali’s emotions together as she desperately wanted to acquaint herself with this new friend. There is nothing quite as humbling to a dog owner as to have your dog disregard all training while the other dog displays complete compliance to its owner’s wishes. As we passed each other, this very obedient dog lost all composer and tried to race toward Cali. As the owner was desperately trying to get his dog under control, I was doing a victory dance and pumping the air with glee while singing praises to the other dog’s misbehavior. I wasn’t alone in the world of dog obedience. Have you ever felt small when comparing yourself to a spiritual giant? These are the ones who seem to have their relationship in total sync with God. They are the ones you are sure will never die because, like Enoch-God took him because, he walked so close to God. Well-take heart, these spiritual giants are no different than my new dog friend. They have their moments too-we usually do not see them. In reality, we are not much different than anyone else. We all have our faults. Romans 5:8 states, “8 But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us” (NAS). We will never fall from Christ’s love. Next time you feel small compared to a spiritual giant, just remember, God is about to jerk their chain too.
