Cali caught another squirrel. I did not realize she had killed it until I threw her toy bone. Cali ran after the bone, stopped part way back, and checked out her kill. I said, “Cali, what is that?” I went over to her, and sure enough, it was a dead squirrel. Cali picked it up and showed me her prized trophy. I made Cali drop the squirrel. I got my shovel, went to the back of our shed, and dug a hole. I scooped up the squirrel and in a very undignified manner, tossed her treasure into the hole and buried it.
How many buried treasures have you accumulated during your lifetime? By buried treasure, I mean those possessions you had to have at one time but they mean nothing to you now.
Proverbs 23:4-5 states, “Do not weary yourself to gain wealth, cease from your consideration of it. When you set your eyes on it, it is gone. For wealth certainly makes itself wings like an eagle that flies toward the heavens” (NAS).
I believe we could all learn to do with less. It is hard to have a cluttered life if there is no clutter to gather (you may quote me on that-lol). Think of the money we could have saved had we not bought so much stuff through the years. Are your possessions buried? Next time you are tempted with a purchase, be careful-you may be going after buried treasure.
