June 5-A Squirrel in the Bushes

Cali loves to chase squirrels. I suppose it is a dog thing. We were walking in a park the other day when Cali saw a squirrel. She almost ripped my arm off. I was not ready for the 65 pounds of raw muscle to jump into action so quickly. Cali wanted that squirrel and she completely forgot she was on a leash. Fortunately, my shoulder joint and my body weight held her back. We continued with our walk and soon Cali forgot about her experience. As we were about to leave the park, we went by the bushes where the squirrel had disappeared. Cali recognized the place, and her dog antennas instantly went into full reception mode. Even though Cali could not see the squirrel, she had a good idea it was there.

Reflecting on Cali’s behavior, John 20:29 came to mind. Jesus stated, “…Because you have seen Me, have you believed? Blessed are they who did not see, and yet believed” (NAS). Cali knew the squirrel was in the bushes because she had seen it earlier in our walk. Think about the times you have seen God work in your life. God may have answered a prayer, healed a sick family member, given you a job, led you to your spouse. The list could go on and on. On the flip side, how often have you doubted God’s goodness and His ability to answer your prayers?

If we can concentrate on the times we have seen God at work, then we have a better ability to trust Him in difficult situations. Even though we may not see God’s physical presence or His physical manifestations, raise your dog antennas, your answer lies right in the bushes.
