June 3-A Closed Gate

Cali loves adventures. The sights, sounds, and smells always bring Cali to her happy place. Cali is one who can live in the moment and can fully enjoy everything in it. I decided to take a break from running today and instead, I took Cali to explore our city’s dog park. Cali and I have not experienced a dog park and we were not quite sure what to expect. Cali was extremely excited to give it a try. I used my GPS to find the park and after a few mishaps, we found it.

Taking Cali by the leash, we made our way to the park. I knew Cali was going to have a blast. There was a large area, with grass, dirt, trees, benches, and everything a dog would want. As we approached the entrance-to our horror-the gate was locked and the park was closed. I could not believe it. How was I going to explain this to Cali? I know her heart was set on playing with the other dogs and having the time of her life. She sat looking at the closed sign. We were devastated. To salvage our adventure, I took Cali for several laps around the larger park area. Fortunately, Cali soon forgot about the dog park and was exploring other things.

My mind turned to what Jesus said about His gate to heaven. Matthew 7:13-14 states, “Enter through the narrow gate; for the gate is wide and the way is broad that leads to destruction, and there are many who enter through it. For the gate is small and the way is narrow that leads to life, and there are few who find it” (NAS). The gate to heaven is Jesus. We enter that gate by giving our lives to Jesus and by asking Him to forgive us of our sins. Unfortunately, due to pride, self-righteousness, or any other mindset, few want to enter this gate.

The beauty of God’s gate is that it is never closed. You can enter it at any time. In fact, right now would be a great opportunity for you to enter that gate. God is standing on the other side of the fence and He is waiting for you to enter His dog park.
