June 20-A Lap Dog

Cali and I went on our first walk since I injured my knee and she injured her dog pads. About two weeks ago, I pushed our run a half mile farther than usual. I strained the inside of my knee. Since I can ride my mountain bike without knee strain, I took Cali on an aggressive bike run the other day. We over did it a bit and she came home with sore feet. You might begin to see a pattern in my personality.

Cali was ecstatic when she saw her leash. She jumped around and squealed. Even though we did not run, she took the walk with absolute joy. Unfortunately for me, she had stored two weeks of pent up energy. She exploded down the sidewalk with all cylinders running. The problem arose when she kicked in the afterburners. I held her back the best I could.

After returning home, her endorphins kicked in and she was a happy dog. Cali felt loved and seemed to own the place. She opened the sliding door and marched inside. Cali came up to me as I rested on the couch. She looked at me with eyes that said, “Move over, that’s my spot.” With one leap, she was on my lap. I think Cali still thinks she is a puppy. However, her dog suit is much bigger than her puppy brain. The only part of Cali that could rest on my lap was her front half.

Psalm 62:7 states, “Oh God my salvation and my glory rest; the rock of my strength, my refuge is in God” (NAS). The psalmist tells us that we can rest on God. Whenever you need God’s help, comfort, or assurance, know that His lap is big enough to hold more than your front half.
