June 19-A $20.00 Dog

I cannot believe Kim and I adopted Cali for $20.00. Cali was a rescue dog and we picked her up from the Riverside Animal Shelter. Cali was spayed, given all her shots, chipped, and hand delivered all for that unbelievable low price. Since she had been in the shelter for a month, the price was significantly lower. Some advice if you are thinking about getting a rescue dog-get a used one that has been in the shelter for at least a month.

We have had so much fun with Cali. She has a wonderful personality. She loves to play and desires our attention as much as I desire birthday presents (that is a post in and of itself-Oct. 27-just saying 😊).

Cali has become part of the family. At first, I hesitated to get a dog since I questioned the responsibility that came with dog ownership. The pleasure she brings totally outweighs any responsibilities.

Romans 5:6 states, “For while we were still helpless, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly” (NAS). When I think about the price I paid for Cali, it makes me think of the price God paid for each of us. God sacrificed His son, Jesus, on the cross to pay for our sins. In return, God offers this gift of salvation without charge. We can receive this gift by asking Jesus into our hearts and by freely accepting His sacrifice for our sins.

Next time you feel dejected, worthless, or unloved-just remember you were bought with the price of Jesus Christ. Jesus values you even though you may have been in the dog pound over a month.
