The other day I broke my doggy. We went on a mountain bike ride and pushed it a little too hard. Cali came home with sore feet. I put ointment on her pads, told her I was sorry, and we would take it a little easier next time. She was not impressed with my apology, especially, since I went riding without her today. I am letting her rest for a few days before I take her running again.
It was a bit lonely without my dog. I knew she wanted to be with me, and I knew she would have had so much fun running the back-country road. My lonely ride made me think of the time when Jesus’ followers withdrew from Him. He had finished telling the crowds that He was the way to eternal life and that no one could come to Him unless it has been granted him from the Father (John 6:65). When Jesus saw that many of His followers had left, He turned to the twelve and said, “…You do not want to go away also, do you?” (NAS).
You can hear the loneliness in Jesus’ voice as He knew who would follow Him and who would not. I wonder how often God chose to do a work and invited us to come along. Have you ever stayed home and let God journey on His own? Did you ever see God working and not participate? Perhaps you chose not to tag along due to a misunderstanding with a fellow Christian, pride, hurt feelings, or you might have been angry at God for not answering a specific prayer.
Next time you see God moving, get up and go along with Him. He may take you on a great ride.
