June 13, 2020-Looking up Into a Lemon Tree

Apparently, Cali saw a squirrel in the lemon tree. Cali raced all around the tree and kept looking up into it. At one point, it looked like Cali was going to climb the tree. Cali has an incredible reach. Her long legs and body can stretch to amazing lengths. No matter how hard Cali tried to get into the tree, her efforts failed time after time. Cali was not made to climb trees. Dogs do not work that way.

After a while, I decided to see what captivated Cali’s attention. I went to the tree and nothing was there. I looked and looked and did not see a thing. I concluded that a squirrel had climbed into the tree at some point but had escaped. Cali could not let it go. I believe she thought her persistence would produce a squirrel.

Hebrews 13:5 states, “Make sure that your character is free from the love of money being content with what you have; for He Himself has said, ‘I will never desert you, nor will I ever forsake you’” (NAS). Have you ever wished for something that was just out of reach? Perhaps it was a cool four-wheel drive, a boat, a new house, or even a new tool for that already loaded toolbox. Did you find that your dream consumed a lot of your attention? You might have even wasted valuable time researching the item you desperately wanted. Some things are not practical and were never meant to be. Next time your desires get the best of you, think deeply, you might be looking up into a lemon tree.
