July 9-A Granola Wrapper

I ate a granola bar while sitting on the patio this afternoon. Of course, Cali’s interest with anything I bring to our patio table results in dog eyes, watering mouth, and ridiculous begging. After I finished eating my granola bar, I set the wrapper on the table. The wind came by and blew it to the ground. Cali immediately pounced on the wrapper and began to tear it open. She could not wait to lick the remains from inside the wrapper.

I could not help but think how happy Cali would feel if she could have eaten the entire granola bar instead of its remains. Sometimes our spiritual lives are like Cali’s wrapper. We partake of a small portion of God’s goodness, grace, gifts, and mercy. We occasionally talk with Him, seldom read His Word, or do not find the time to fellowship with other believers.

1st John 1:7 states, “But if we walk in the Light as He Himself is in the Light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus His Son cleanses us from all sin” (NAS).

God wants the best for us, and He has provided a spiritual granola bar for our taking. Learn to commune with God each day, hide His Word in your heart, establish strong ties with other believers, and stop eating just the crumbs from God’s granola wrapper.
