July 31-Obedience Training
Cali obeys commands quite well unless she sees me getting ready for a walk. Cali’s excitement throws all training out the window. She squeals, jumps, hops, and leaps to the point I can hardly leash her or open the gate. Once outside the gate, she is in full gallop mode. I realize that I am probably not a particularly good trainer, however, I really do get enjoyment seeing her extreme, over-the-top excitement.
Cali’s excitement reminds me of King David’s elation when the Ark of the Lord was brought into Jerusalem. 2 Samuel 6:14 states, “And David was dancing before the Lord with all his might…” (NAS). David’s dance did not please everyone. In fact, Michal, David’s wife, looked at David’s dancing with disgust. Despite Michal’s objections, David’s joy pleased the Lord.
I wonder how many times, we confine our worship to solemn, ritualistic behavior. I believe God enjoys our over-the-top joy when expressing gratitude for what He has done. Next time you feel like thanking God for something, let yourself go, jump around, squeal, and run for the gate.
