July 3-Content with a Favorite

Cali has a few favorite toys with which she never tires playing. She seldom asks for new toys since she seems to always take delight with the ones she has. It is almost like each toy is new all over again. Cali will chase her old rubber bone with the same excitement as when she first got it. Cali has learned the lesson of contentment.

Hebrews 13:5 states, “Make sure that your character is free from the love of money, being content with what you have…” (NAS). Cali is certainly teaching me to be content with what I have. Are you always seeking something different? Try to find excitement with what you have and treat your possessions as though they are brand new. Human desires are never quenched. The more you feed desire, the more you want.

Next time you feel the urge to get something new, look at what you have, and take be content with a favorite toy.
