July 21-Reaching for the Prize

Cali enjoys chasing her red ball especially when it bounces high. She likes to jump up to retrieve it. Like an accordion, she appears to elongate the farther she reaches. It must take a lot of effort for her to jump up that high. I tried jumping not long ago and to my horror, I think I jumped only about 1 ¼ inches off the ground. I could not believe it. For whatever reason, my jumping skills have greatly diminished. I think they make shoes heavier than they used to.

Do you ever feel like life is weighing you down? No matter how hard you try, you only get about 1 ¼ inches off the ground. Paul said in Philippians 3:14, “I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus” (NAS).

The secret to jumping in life is Christ Jesus. Only through Christ can we reach our upward prize. Maybe you should stop jumping so hard and ask Jesus to give you the lift you need. Next time you feel like a failure when jumping for a prize, do not blame the shoes. Ask Jesus for help.
