Before Cali and I cross a major intersection, we always look for the traffic light. I make Cali sit and wait. She wants to cross the road and does not like the waiting process. She wants to run.
Cali does not understand that a red light means it is not safe to cross. Even though waiting takes time and feels uncomfortable, the advantages of waiting far outweigh the dangers of proceeding across the road. Besides, waiting at a red light gives both of us a chance to rest.
Isaiah 40:30-31 states,
"Though youths grow weary and tired, and vigorous young men stumble badly, yet those who wait for the Lord will gain new strength; they will mount up with wings like eagles, they will run and not get tired, they will walk and not become weary" (NAS).
Has God ever made you wait at life’s red light? Were your plans suddenly interrupted; did your dreams come to a screeching halt; or were you given news of a job loss or illness? Things like this can cause us to doubt God. We can become anxious, worried, and depressed.
It is hard to stay patient in a time of waiting. During the waiting times, we must trust that God has a plan. He has not forgotten you. In fact, He is standing right by your side holding your leash. He will never let you go. He will keep you safe.
I am sure there are times when Cali is frustrated when I do not let her run through a red light. She does not always understand that waiting at the light is for her good. Next time your plans are disrupted for some unknown reason, try to remember that God has a purpose for your waiting at a red light.
