It looks like our peach tree will bring us a bountiful crop this year. Kim picked a ripened peach, cut it in half, and gave it to me. I took the peach onto the patio to enjoy-AND of course-Cali wanted it. She could not wait to get grab what I had and eat it. I gave her a small portion of my peach. She eagerly sniffed it and walked away. She wanted nothing to do with the peach. Apparently, peaches are tasteless to a dog’s palate.
Proverbs 11:28 states, “He who trusts in his riches will fall, but the righteous will flourish like the green leaf” (NAS). Have you ever wanted something so badly that you would have done almost anything to get it? After getting it, did you realize that it brought you little pleasure?
Life can trick us that way. We need to learn the art of contentment with what God has given us. Material things and ambitions have a way of representing themselves as something they are not. Next time your desires and dreams lead you on an irresistible quest, stop and ask yourself whether you are about to bite into a tasteless peach.
