Cali has invented this new game she plays by herself. Cali will scratch at a spot in our yard, flick the dirt behind her, and chase the clods before they hit the ground. This game looks very bizarre, and it is not one of her finer dog moments. I was talking with my neighbor over the wall yesterday when Cali decided to play this weird game. My neighbor, who had seen this ritual before, asked, “Oh, is she still doing that?” I hung my head in shame and said, “Yeah, she’s still doing it.” I am not sure why Cali invented this game. It serves no purpose and all it really accomplishes are holes in the grass and a dirty patio. As hard as Cali tries to catch the dirt clods, she has yet to get one. Proverbs 16:3 states, “Commit your works to the Lord and your plans will be established” (NAS). Have you ever found yourself working hard at a goal, project, or dream without accomplishing much? Sometimes we get our minds so focused that we forget to ask God for His advice. We spend needless time trying to make things happen and, in the end, find ourselves tired, depressed, and confused. Next time you find yourself frustrated over a fruitless project, ask yourself, “Am I chasing dirt clods?”
P.S. Does your dog do weird things?
