August 8-Fluff on the Floor

Cali finally wore out her favorite stuffed dog. She gnawed on it and soft-chewed it until the fluffy white stuffing began to show. Yesterday, I happened to walk by the patio, and I saw Cali pulling the stuffing out of her beloved toy. The patio was littered with white fluff. I could not believe that Cali would destroy a toy that she has carried in her mouth for months.

I quickly took the toy and reprimanded her for bad behavior. I am sure you have watched u-tube videos of “dogs behaving badly”. They cower in shame, hide their faces, and melt into a ball of disgrace. As I gave Cali a shaming lesson, she instantly grabbed her dog from my hand, and raced around the yard. To Cali, this was a game. There was no shame, no remorse, and not even a hint that she I was disciplining her.

Proverbs 4:7 states, “The beginning of wisdom is: acquire wisdom; and with all your acquiring, get understanding. Prize her, and she will exalt you; she will honor you if you embrace her” (NAS).

I wonder how many times God has tried to give direction only for us to ignore it and to continue our silly habits. I would challenge you to ask God to give you discernment today as you make decisions and interact with others. Watch and listen for God’s voice. He might direct your attention to some fluff on the floor.
