We celebrated Ryan’s six-month birthday the other day. Even though Ryan and Julianne are in Oregon right now, we still had a party for him. After all, who can pass up an opportunity for cake. Kim bought balloons and made the table very festive. After the party, Cali showed extreme interest in the balloons. Cali knew she had found a new favorite toy, until the balloon popped.
Cali could not figure out what happened to the balloon. In one moment, she was playing with a perfectly round ball and suddenly there was a small rubber mass lying on her dog bed. Cali’s fun was over.
Proverbs 11:28 states, “He who trusts in his riches will fall, but the righteous will flourish like the green leaf” (NAS). Have you ever wanted something so much that it preoccupied all your thoughts? Were you disappointed after receiving it? Disappointment happens to all of us. For whatever reason, our minds seem to make things appear better or worse than they really are. Next time you find yourself fixating on some want or desire, try to remember, it could be a balloon getting ready to pop.
