A Mutual Understanding

Cali and I have come to understand each other very well since she adopted me as her owner. You can probably sense that I have totally spoiled her beyond hope. However, during these past three years, we have come to know each other’s thoughts without having to say a word or a bark.

During our walks, I can give a gentle tug on Cali’s leash, a soft command, or make a change of pace and she knows exactly what I want. She can also give me her look, a paw on my arm, or a whine to let me know she’s ready for a walk. We have developed communication techniques that are unique only for a dog and its owner. I’m sure some of you know exactly what I mean.

Jesus states in Revelation 3:20, “Behold, I stand at the door and knock; if anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and will dine with him, and he with Me” (NAS). I wonder how many times Jesus knocked at my heart’s door, and I didn’t hear Him. Do I spend enough time with my heavenly Father to recognize His look, His pat on my arm, or to hear His soft whisper?

Jesus’ words are meant for peace, comfort, and assurance. I pray that my time with Jesus will increase so when He gives a gentle tug on my leash, I will be quick to respond.
