I can’t believe how powerful Cali’s nose is. Her sense of smell is amazing. As we walk or run, her nose is constantly at work. The other day when we were out, I noticed a couple on the other side of the street. They had a dog with them, and Cali instantly took notice. Cali is an alpha dog. She likes to be in the lead. Soon after spotting the dog, she began pulling on her leash. I thought, “Come on Cali, the dog is on the other side of the street; we are already ahead of it-why the big hurry?” Unbeknownst to me, there was another dog around the corner. She smelled the scent of the dog way before we got there. I’m thinking, “Cali, you are going to have a nervous breakdown with that nose of yours.” I don’t think Cali misses a smell. Perhaps, I should take after Cali’s lead. I wonder how many beautiful things I miss in life by not paying attention to my surroundings. I have noticed, however, by walking or running through my neighborhood, I am observing more things than ever before. Psalm 19:1 states, “The heavens are telling of the glory of God; and their expanse is declaring the work of His hands.” Let’s take some time today to observe the beauty of God’s earth and give Him praise for what He has created. Maybe it’s time to put on our dog noses.
