A Dog Brush

April 20

Cali really enjoys her morning brushes. When it is time for her grooming, she comes over, puts her head against my leg, and patiently waits for her brush down. She is losing massive amounts of undergrowth fur and I gather a fist full after each session. For dogs, losing weight is easy. All it takes is a good brushing and magically, the dog looks 5 pounds thinner. For some reason, a dog’s body knows when it is time to shed the winter coat and to prepare for the hot days of summer. The shedding comes off naturally and Cali doesn’t even plan or schedule a grooming date with me. Hebrews 12:1 states, “Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a huge crowd of witnesses to the life of faith, let us strip off every weight that slows us down...” (NLT). In this time of quarantine, might God be giving you a brushing? Perhaps, God is using this incident to brush away the unnecessary entanglements of life. Maybe, our winter coat is too heavy and it is time to slim down the activities that cause stress, tension, and anxiety. 1 Thessalonians 5:18 states, “Be thankful in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you who belong to Christ Jesus” (NLT). Even if this time of quarantine does not make sense, it is important to know that we are in God’s hands, He loves us, and He will provide for our needs. If you feel uneasy about life’s situation today, God might be handing you a dog brush.
