A Dog Bowl

Updated: Apr 15, 2020

April 14

Every morning I give Cali a fresh bowl of water. She loves her water and her dog bowl. Her bowl is very large, and she drinks copious amounts of water every day. For whatever reason, Cali has not learned to lick her lips after drinking. As she walks away from her dog bowl, water pours out of her mouth and off her tongue. She makes a watery mess all over the patio. It is easy to see where Cali has been after drinking since she leaves a trail of dog water behind her. As I was running Cali yesterday, an image came to my mind of Cali’s drinking habits, God’s word, and our witness of Jesus Christ. Now this may seem like a strange combination, however, there is a lesson we can learn from Cali’s drinking habits. Psalm 19:14 states, “Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in Your sight, O Lord, my rock, and my Redeemer” (NAS). As the water freely flows from Cali’s mouth, does God’s word flow freely from our mouths. Jesus states in John 4:10, “…If you knew the gift of God and who it is who says to you, ‘Give Me a drink,’ you would have asked Him, and He would have given you living water’” (NAS). Next time you feel prompted to share the gospel of Jesus to someone, stay attentive, God may be giving you a dog bowl.
