April 25
There is nothing more relaxing than watching a dog sleep. They look so peaceful and content. Dogs can sleep in the most contorted ways. Their heads can hang off their beds, their legs might bend in unusual ways, and their bodies can fold or twist into uncommon irregularities and yet, they are blissfully asleep. I have seen Cali sleep with her head propped on the runners of our sliding glass door after long unsuccessful periods of giving us “the look”. It does not matter what type of day a dog has; they can always sleep. For whatever reason, sleep comes easily to a dog. Cali and I took a run yesterday morning. I knew it was going to be a hot day and I wanted to beat the heat. Even though it was a morning run, Cali and I came home hot and tired. It has taken Cali a long time to get use to sleeping indoors. She likes to sleep outside and prefers to enjoy the freedom of the backyard. However, after yesterday’s run, she came inside where it was cool and sank into a deep slumber on my futon. While working at my computer, I enjoyed listening to Cali’s soft breathing noises and watched how peaceful she looked. Psalm 37: 7 states, “Rest in the Lord and wait patiently for Him; do not fret because of him who prospers in his way, because of the man who carries out wicked schemes” (NAS). The Bible tells us to rest in the Lord. To rest in the Lord means to trust Him when our heads are hanging down; when our world appears twisted and contorted; when life makes no sense and appears unmanageable. To rest in the Lord means we can rest in Him at any given moment. If you feel frustrated or if weather predictions or unusual circumstances keep you indoors today, take advantage of your time-God might be offering you a futon.
