A Backyard Garden

May 3

Kim and I planted a backyard garden yesterday. We bought a trough, vegetable and herb plants, a watering system, and garden soil. The process of leveling the ground, hooking up the watering system, filling up the trough-only to dump it all out because we forgot to put in the weed barrier at the bottom-took most of the day. In the past, our gardens have always been at ground level. The weeding and care taking often took more time than the worth of the project. The benefits of an above ground garden will make weeding minimal, and backbreaking harvesting marginal (we hope). An above ground garden will also give protection from a particular four-footed doggy. Cali’s playful energy should now take place around the garden instead of through it. Psalm 91:14 states, “Because he has loved Me therefore I will deliver him; I will set him securely on high, because he has known My name” (NAS). God has promised to deliver us from all harmful situations. This does not mean we will never experience troubles. Jesus says in John 16:33, “These things I have spoken to you, so that in Me you may have peace. In the world you have tribulation, but take courage; I have overcome the world” (NAS). When God states that He will deliver us from trouble, it means He will not let troubles defeat us. We can conquer trials and difficult situations through the peace of Jesus Christ. If you are experiencing hardships today, rest assured that God has placed you in His above ground garden.
